Back Injury From Unloading A Truck
On March 30, 2003 I was injured at work, I was a Manager for an Atlanta area bookstore. While doing the truck, I was injured in my lower back. My employer had no safety meetings, back braces, etc.
AIG initially paid the claim for about 3 weeks, and then I get an email from the adjuster saying if my Dr would fax him another disability slip for my low back that he wouldn’t cut off my benefits. My Dr complied and I was cut off anyway. However AIG continued to pay my medical. I was a little lucky in that, my company didn’t have a panel of physicians listed, so I was able to go to my own dr.
AIG has made my life a living hell. I have a bulging disc in L5-S1 with nerve compression. My dr had wanted me to get an epidural. I called the hospital and set everything up, and three days before I was to go and have it, the same adjustor calls the hospital and informs them, that he will not authorize this. I told the hospital to call my Dr and inform them of this situation and document it in my chart.
Then this adjustor calls my Dr Saying I won’t go to the epidural and wanting my Dr to write a letter than I was optimal and refusing medical treatment. My Dr refused, and called and informed me of what they were doing. My injury is almost a year old, I just have now gotten mileage check from them that were submitted in August. I live in Pain, have been followed and harassed. I had an IME from hell, it looked like a back alley abortion clinic and the Dr didn’t seem to care, exam me, nor listen to me.
I have been told I will never return to the retail Mgmt occupation. My own employer has treated me like total crap. I have had my DM call and yell at me for being hurt. Workers comp doesn’t work nor does it compensate.
