This is in regards from myself, as a business owner, this is a true fact and it shows the true colors for the state of Idaho.
I have been in business 30+ years, my first lost time injury happened in 2000.
A employee cut leg, I had a private carrier and I had no problems getting my worker taken care of. Then we went through the Idaho Ins. Fund. I do not know how we ended up with these morons, whether it was my insurance broker or my bookkeeper I do not know.
In 2001 a concrete chute fell of mixer truck fell 12 feet striking a worker in the head. Because it was a large concrete company they sent out a safety investigator and it was determined that it was freak accident. The employee was sent a emergency clinic near the job site. The Idaho Comp Ins. sent him to a doctor who stated that he could not see any damage for at least a year on a neck injury.
One year ago the numbness started, with in 3 more months he was losing use of his hands. In the mean time we had a worker blow out a knee, it was a injury that had happened twice before with another employer. The Idaho workman's comp. took care of it fast and he is still on disability. They had no problem charging it to me. I had no problem with this as I want my employees taken care of.
But the employee with the neck injury - it took 9 months to get his surgery . In that nine months we had to threaten law suits, contact our A.G.,the insurance commissioner and any body else who would listen.
My question is the insurance is mandatory by law, on this I agree, but I think it is wrong to have fight for it. As a employer my employees are my greatest asset and I want them protected.
