Wrist Injury With Torn Ligaments At Work

Often we go through life thinking everything will be OK because people are basically good and our government is there to protect us and provide in time of need.

Those were my feelings until I became a victim of the Workers Compensation program. I naively thought that if something ever happened to me on the job, Workman's Comp would be there to provide. Believe me when I tell you that workman's comp is not there to protect you, but there to protect your employer.

My organization knew I was a hard worker so they took advantage of my abilities and energies and short changed me constantly in the areas of assistance in performing my task. The day in question was no different. Starting me with enough help, my helper was soon removed to go to another job. I was left alone to finish, in the same amount of time, the assigned work. The results were a torn ligament in my wrist, painful surgery, a failed operation, and a permanent loss of mobility and flex ability in my wrist.

Still I felt workman's comp was there for me because my bills and services were being provided as needed. My gripe comes with the value this program places on our body parts. Where did the compensation levels originate that provide such a low level of repayment for your loss. There is absolutely no consideration for continued pain and suffering and even after you settle they pay their percentage on a sliding rate.

What is the incentive for companies to provide safe environments and worry about their workers when poor management and tyrannical bosses basically receive nothing more than a slap on the wrist. Their lawyers go to court with lying evaluations on your loss and your lawyer goes to court with the same. Somewhere they meet and give you an award. What a bunch of lies and deceit. I have a 45% loss in the use of my right hand.

I'm a craftsman that requires both of my hands to function safely and productively. Their level of compensation is insulting and embarrassing. There is absolutely no avenue of compensation for replacing the loss and the continued pain that accompanies this injury.

Workers beware and do anything necessary to protect yourself in the workplace.
