Last june, 2002, i was struck by a piece or fiberglass grating i had placed on a forklift to transport, cut to size, and install. It ripped, literally, open my left leg just below the calf. I bled profusely, and tried to get outside to keep from contaminating the mfg. Plant i worked in. I asked one employee to go get my supervisor. He saw what had happened and called 911.
Really didn't need an ambulance. But was forced to go with the ambulance since they'd called one. It took 20 min. For them to show up. There's a hospital ten minutes away. Couldn't get anyone to take me. My supervisor finally came out and saw the damage. Walked back in and i didn't see him again. They packed me into the ambulance, and i had to go alone to the furthest hospital, and it was the community "training" hospital. I laid on a table for 4 hrs. Alone. Noone from work came. I finally got sewed up and had to catch a cab back to my car. Then drive myself home. Thank God i had an automatic transmission.
They Didn't care about me in any form or seem to care that i'd been hurt. Came home and didn't even get a call. When i called to let them know i could come in and answer phone or something they told me i needed to get a release from a dr. So i called my dr. He didn't do workman's comp. Cases and referred me to someone that did. He wouldn't release me, so i was off for 16 weeks doin' therapy. Living on 75% of my usual income. Not too easy with a son in college. Me paying tuition, truck payment and his insurance.
Now, i'm trying' to get the "insurance dr.'s" measly 1% disability check back from the insurance co. The treating dr.gave me a 11% disability. The insurance co. Sent me to a quack that came up with a 1% rating. Well, i checked with lawyers, and workman's comp office to see if i could contest it. No results. Just answering machines. No returning of my calls! So the check expired in 60 days. I sent it back, resigned to take the 1%.um hum, they won't renew it and will not return my voice mail. What a racket! I'm going down and sit at the workmans comp. Office and talk to a person. 'Bout all i can think to do. Oh yea, i got laid off while they kept my worthless boss over me. Imagine that! This guy barely knows which end of a screwdriver to use, and nothing about all the electrical aspects of the plant i took care of for them. Talk about politics! And perhaps some sort of "payback" for me bein' off for so long.
I'm hoping this will bring to light what you probably already know. If it's happened to you then maybe you'll feel better knowing that you aren't the only one! Don't know if it'll help me or you, but surely something will happen to keep the insurance companies from ruling the world. They already own half of it!
